Foundation Skills Package Review
Over the last few years the Foundation Skills Package has been reviewed and revised and last week, the revisions to it were endorsed. Whilst there are no changes to the titles of the 3 qualifications within this package, there are significant amendments and additions to the content. This is probably to be expected since the review was the first opportunity to reflect on the use and the content of the FSK after its initial implementation across Australia in 2013.
It is vital that staff delivering the new FSK qualifications take time to unpack it carefully and underake a full review of the assessment tools used for the superceded version. Chances are that they will no longer map back to cover the requirements of the new units. Another key change is in the Assessment Conditions for every unit. They now specify that in addition to holding TAE40116, assessors must also hold TAESS00009 Address Foundation skills in Vocational Practice skill Set or a higher level education qualification. Additionally they must have a sound knowledge of the ACSF and have demonstrable expertise, knowledge and skills in the vocational contextualisation and assessment of the core skill, learning.
